MonMon - Privacy Policy
In short. A virtual pet you can talk to. It answers, plays and grows, all on your phone. There is no account and no sign-up. Nothing leaves your phone except what this page names.
1. What the app does
MonMon is an Android app by JabbieWorld (https://jabbie.world). A virtual pet you can talk to. It answers, plays and grows, all on your phone.
2. Who is responsible
JabbieWorld, a trade name of Alexander Wannyn (https://jabbie.world), is responsible for this app. Contact: https://jabbie.world. Email: info@jabbie.world.
3. Microphone, camera and your pet
- The app asks for permission to use the microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) the first time you tap the microphone button, and for the camera (CAMERA) the first time you tap the camera button, which appears only after you switch the camera on in the settings. The first-start choices for listening, photos and online lookups are all off until you switch them on. If you say no to a permission, the rest of the app keeps working.
- The microphone listens only after you tap or hold the microphone button, and until you stop talking. If you switch on "Listen all the time", it listens while the app is open and on screen. The sound goes to speech models (Whisper and Silero) that run on your phone and is turned into text; the sound is then dropped. It is never saved and never sent anywhere. There is no background recording, no call recording and no foreground service for recording.
- What you type or say is answered by a language model (Gemma or Qwen) that runs on your phone, and the answer is spoken by an on-device voice (Supertonic). The app may change audio volume settings (MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS) so that the voice plays at the right level.
- A photo is taken with your phone's camera and shrunk to a small copy in the app's temporary folder. The language model reads it on your phone. If the model on your phone cannot look at pictures, the app reads the words in the photo with Google ML Kit text recognition, which uses a model that ships inside the app and works offline. The photo is not uploaded and the app does not add it to your gallery.
- Your pet remembers your first name, and the state of the pet (needs, growth, hearts, the day's wish, the snacks in its pantry, which creature and world you picked, and whether the egg has hatched). These stay on your device. The first-launch age check keeps your month and year of birth on your device only; you can change it in the settings.
- Clearing the app's data (Android Settings > Apps > MonMon > Storage > Clear data) or uninstalling removes all of it, the downloaded models included.
- Legal basis: everything the app does for you happens on your device, at your request. No personal data about it reaches me.
4. Online lookups, weather and downloads
- Model downloads: when you choose to install the brain and the voice, the app downloads them from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) and GitHub (github.com, the sherpa-onnx project's release files), over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), on Wi-Fi only unless you switch that off. The brain is a large file (about 1 GB to 3.7 GB). You can also pick a model file that is already on your phone with Android's file picker. Like any server, these hosts see your IP address; the downloads contain no data about you, and their own privacy statements apply.
- Online lookups: only when you switched on "Look things up online" and then say yes to that one question, the app sends the words of the question to Wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org) and, if Wikipedia finds nothing, to DuckDuckGo (api.duckduckgo.com, with safe search on). They answer with a short text that your pet reads out. The request names the app and carries no account, advertising ID or other identifier; the hosts see your IP address like any website, and their own privacy statements apply. I receive nothing.
- Weather: only when you switch on "Tell me the weather" and pick a city. The city name you type goes to the Photon search service (photon.komoot.io, OpenStreetMap data), and the coordinates of the city you picked go to MET Norway (api.met.no), at most once an hour. The app never asks for your location and has no location permission.
5. Little jobs on your phone
- "Phone tasks" is off until you switch it on. When it is on, your pet turns what you say into one small job: an alarm or a timer, a text, email or chat draft, a calendar entry, a web search, directions, a ride, a translation, a note, the flashlight, music controls, an Android settings page or opening an app. Jobs that send or save something (drafts, calendar entries, searches, rides, translations) wait for your yes. Simple ones such as alarms, timers and the flashlight run at once, and those that can be undone show an Undo button.
- The app asks for access to your contacts (READ_CONTACTS) only the first time you name a person for a draft. The name is matched on your phone to find a number or an address; the match is not stored and not sent anywhere. The app declares the alarm permission (SET_ALARM) to set the alarm in your clock app.
- The app hands the job to the app that does it (messages, email, calendar, browser, maps, clock, translator): a draft opens for you to read and send yourself, and a calendar entry opens for you to save. Words that you approved for a search or a translation go to that app or your browser, and its own privacy policy covers what it does with them. MonMon sends nothing to me.
- The app declares notification permission through a library it shares, but MonMon shows no notification and never asks for it.
6. Rewarded ads
MonMon shows one kind of ad: an optional rewarded ad that you choose to watch to give your pet three snacks, up to two times a day. Talking, care and the daily wish work without ever watching an ad. The number of ads watched today is stored on your device. Nothing in the app is bought with money.
7. Data collected and why
Google Play lists these data types for MonMon:
| Data | Why | Shared with a third party | Optional |
|---|---|---|---|
| Approximate location | Advertising or marketing; Analytics; Fraud prevention, security, and compliance | Yes | No |
| App interactions | Advertising or marketing; Analytics; Fraud prevention, security, and compliance | Yes | No |
| Diagnostics | Advertising or marketing; Analytics; Fraud prevention, security, and compliance | Yes | No |
| Device or other IDs | Advertising or marketing; Analytics; Fraud prevention, security, and compliance | Yes | No |
"Shared" means the data goes to a third party that decides for itself how to process it (for ads, that is Google AdMob).
Nothing else is collected. Your files and settings stay on your device. I do not sell personal data.
8. Ads and how to opt out
MonMon shows ads served by Google AdMob (Google LLC / Google Ireland Limited). AdMob may use your device's advertising ID and other device data to show ads, limit how often you see them and detect fraud. Google decides for itself how it processes this data, as an independent controller. How Google handles it: policies.google.com/technologies/ads and policies.google.com/privacy. How Google uses information from apps that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
- Consent (EEA, UK, Switzerland): where the law requires it, a consent message lets you accept or refuse personalised ads and the use of device identifiers. Personalised ads rest on that consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can change your choice later under Privacy options in the app's settings, where available.
- Opt out of personalisation: open Android Settings > Google > Ads (the path varies by device) and turn off ad personalisation, or visit adssettings.google.com.
- Reset or delete the advertising ID: in the same Ads settings choose Reset advertising ID or Delete advertising ID. Resetting gives you a new ID; deleting it stops ads being personalised with it.
Anyone the age check (see Children) treats as possibly under 18 gets only non-personalised ads rated for general audiences (G), through Google's child-directed and under-age-of-consent treatment. The ad formats are: optional rewarded ads. A rewarded ad is optional: you choose to watch it and get a reward in return (credit: 1).
9. Purchases
MonMon sells nothing and has no paid features.
10. Network use
MonMon also contacts internet services that its job needs; the sections above name them and what is sent. I run no servers for this app. Ads and purchases add the traffic that Ads and Purchases describe.
11. Legal bases (GDPR)
- What the app does on your device: it happens locally, at your request. No personal data about it reaches me.
- What the app sends over the internet for its job: the section that describes it names the legal basis.
- The age check: it runs only on your device and serves my legal obligation to protect minors (Article 6(1)(c)).
- Messages you send me: my legitimate interest in answering you (Article 6(1)(f)).
- Ads and purchases: where the app has them, Ads and Purchases give the legal basis.
12. Retention
I run no servers for this app and hold no data about you, so I have nothing to retain. Settings and progress stay on your device until you clear the app's storage or uninstall the app. Data that Google receives for ads or purchases is kept under Google's own policies. Messages you send me are kept only as long as needed to answer you.
13. International transfers
Data that Google receives for ads or purchases (Ads, Purchases) may be processed in countries outside the European Economic Area, including the United States, under safeguards such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. See policies.google.com/privacy for details. Any other internet service this page names may also process your request outside your country, under its own policy.
14. Your rights and deleting your data
Under the GDPR and similar laws you can ask for access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of or a copy of your personal data, object to processing, withdraw consent at any time, and complain to your local data protection authority.
- Data held by me: none, apart from messages you send me. To have a conversation deleted, contact me at https://jabbie.world. Email: info@jabbie.world.
- Data on your device: uninstall the app, or open Android Settings > Apps > MonMon > Storage > Clear data.
- Data held by Google: manage or delete your Google activity at myactivity.google.com; where the app shows ads, Ads says how to reset or delete the advertising ID. Requests about data Google holds go to Google.
I answer requests within 30 days.
15. Children
MonMon is for people aged 13 and over and is not directed at children. The app asks for your month and year of birth (never the day) when you first open it. Only those two are stored, on your device, and it is never sent to me or to Google; the app treats anyone it may consider under 18 as a minor, and Ads says what that means for ads. I do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent me data, contact me as Who is responsible describes and I will delete it.
16. Security
The app requests only the permissions it needs, and what it keeps for you stays on your device. Google's ad and billing libraries, where Ads and Purchases name them, connect over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
17. Changes
If this policy changes, I update this page and its date. Material changes are also reflected in the Google Play Data safety section.
