PhotoSweep - Privacy Policy
In short. Find duplicate photos, similar shots and big files. Free up space on your phone. There is no account and no sign-up. Nothing leaves your phone except what this page names.
1. What the app does
PhotoSweep is an Android app by JabbieWorld (https://jabbie.world). Find duplicate photos, similar shots and big files. Free up space on your phone.
2. Who is responsible
JabbieWorld, a trade name of Alexander Wannyn (https://jabbie.world), is responsible for this app. Contact: https://jabbie.world. Email: info@jabbie.world.
3. Your photos and videos
- The app asks for permission to read photos and videos (Android READ_MEDIA_IMAGES and READ_MEDIA_VIDEO; on Android 12 and lower, the older READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission).
- It uses that access only to list your media, to compare files, and to move the items you select to the system Trash or delete them.
- Scanning, comparison and the "similar photos" analysis happen on your device. Your media, file names and file contents are never uploaded, copied to a server, or shared with me or anyone else.
- Nothing is removed unless you select it and confirm in Android's own system dialog. By default selected items go to the system Trash, where Android keeps them for about 30 days so you can restore them from your gallery app. "Delete permanently" is a separate choice that the app asks you to confirm before Android's dialog appears.
- Clean-up reminder (optional, off by default): when you switch it on, the app asks for permission to show notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) and uses RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED to schedule the reminder again after the phone restarts. The reminder is a local notification made on your device from the result of your last scan; no push service is involved.
- Saved on your device only: app settings, the reminder setting and the result of the last scan, a launch counter that times a rating request, whether ads are removed, and the year of birth from the first-launch age check (change it in Settings > Change year of birth). I cannot see any of it.
- Legal basis: reading and deleting media on your device is carried out locally at your request. No personal data about it reaches me.
4. Data collected and why
Google Play lists these data types for PhotoSweep:
| Data | Why | Shared with a third party | Optional |
|---|---|---|---|
| Approximate location | Advertising or marketing; Analytics; Fraud prevention, security, and compliance | Yes | No |
| Purchase history | App functionality | No | No |
| App interactions | Advertising or marketing; Analytics; Fraud prevention, security, and compliance | Yes | No |
| Diagnostics | Advertising or marketing; Analytics; Fraud prevention, security, and compliance | Yes | No |
| Device or other IDs | Advertising or marketing; Analytics; Fraud prevention, security, and compliance | Yes | No |
"Shared" means the data goes to a third party that decides for itself how to process it (for ads, that is Google AdMob).
Nothing else is collected. Your files and settings stay on your device. I do not sell personal data.
5. Ads and how to opt out
PhotoSweep shows ads served by Google AdMob (Google LLC / Google Ireland Limited). AdMob may use your device's advertising ID and other device data to show ads, limit how often you see them and detect fraud. Google decides for itself how it processes this data, as an independent controller. How Google handles it: policies.google.com/technologies/ads and policies.google.com/privacy. How Google uses information from apps that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
- Consent (EEA, UK, Switzerland): where the law requires it, a consent message lets you accept or refuse personalised ads and the use of device identifiers. Personalised ads rest on that consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can change your choice later under Privacy options in the app's settings, where available.
- Opt out of personalisation: open Android Settings > Google > Ads (the path varies by device) and turn off ad personalisation, or visit adssettings.google.com.
- Reset or delete the advertising ID: in the same Ads settings choose Reset advertising ID or Delete advertising ID. Resetting gives you a new ID; deleting it stops ads being personalised with it.
Anyone the age check (see Children) treats as possibly under 18 gets only non-personalised ads rated for general audiences (G), through Google's child-directed and under-age-of-consent treatment. The ad formats are: banner ads, full-screen ads.
6. Purchases
PhotoSweep offers a one-time purchase that removes the ads. It is handled by Google Play Billing: Google processes the payment as an independent controller and I never receive your card or payment details. The app asks Google Play on your device whether you own the purchase; after the purchase it no longer requests ads. The legal basis is the performance of a contract with you (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)). Your purchases are listed in the Google Play app under Payments and subscriptions > Budget and history. The app may sometimes ask you to rate it with Google Play's in-app review prompt, which Google processes.
7. Network use
PhotoSweep sends nothing to a server of mine. The only network traffic is what Ads and Purchases describe.
8. Legal bases (GDPR)
- What the app does on your device: it happens locally, at your request. No personal data about it reaches me.
- What the app sends over the internet for its job: the section that describes it names the legal basis.
- The age check: it runs only on your device and serves my legal obligation to protect minors (Article 6(1)(c)).
- Messages you send me: my legitimate interest in answering you (Article 6(1)(f)).
- Ads and purchases: where the app has them, Ads and Purchases give the legal basis.
9. Retention
I run no servers for this app and hold no data about you, so I have nothing to retain. Settings and progress stay on your device until you clear the app's storage or uninstall the app. Data that Google receives for ads or purchases is kept under Google's own policies. Messages you send me are kept only as long as needed to answer you.
10. International transfers
Data that Google receives for ads or purchases (Ads, Purchases) may be processed in countries outside the European Economic Area, including the United States, under safeguards such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. See policies.google.com/privacy for details. Any other internet service this page names may also process your request outside your country, under its own policy.
11. Your rights and deleting your data
Under the GDPR and similar laws you can ask for access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of or a copy of your personal data, object to processing, withdraw consent at any time, and complain to your local data protection authority.
- Data held by me: none, apart from messages you send me. To have a conversation deleted, contact me at https://jabbie.world. Email: info@jabbie.world.
- Data on your device: uninstall the app, or open Android Settings > Apps > PhotoSweep > Storage > Clear data.
- Data held by Google: manage or delete your Google activity at myactivity.google.com; where the app shows ads, Ads says how to reset or delete the advertising ID. Requests about data Google holds go to Google.
I answer requests within 30 days.
12. Children
PhotoSweep is for people aged 13 and over and is not directed at children. The app asks for your month and year of birth (never the day) when you first open it. Only those two are stored, on your device, and it is never sent to me or to Google; the app treats anyone it may consider under 18 as a minor, and Ads says what that means for ads. I do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent me data, contact me as Who is responsible describes and I will delete it.
13. Security
The app requests only the permissions it needs, and what it keeps for you stays on your device. Google's ad and billing libraries, where Ads and Purchases name them, connect over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
14. Changes
If this policy changes, I update this page and its date. Material changes are also reflected in the Google Play Data safety section.
